Change Over Stagnation

The Who, What, Where, Why, and How Behind TUO in Idaho

Who?

My name is K. Mayville and I am a paladin within The Umbran Order. I once held the High Priestess position in the Les Bois Circle in Boise, but have since been charged with a very different role along its fringes. My job is primarily to minister, protect, and foster community relations in the Treasure Valley and Elmore County, marrying couples and blessing babies along the way (as one does).

WHAT?

The Umbran Order is an earth-based neopagan religion practicing in the United States of America. Members place emphasis on seasonal celebration and private ritual. There are various factions and groups within TUO, but all are unified by a handful of defining principles—chief among them, the desire to learn and seek out new or occult knowledge.

The Umbran Order is broken down into circles based on region and population. There is a National Circle (The United States), a Regional Circle (The Northwest), a State/Province Circle (Idaho), and then each descending circle is broken down by County, City, and Prime Circles as population allows.

Idaho’s numbers are currently low enough that there are no true county circles. Currently, there are four Prime Circles that practice in Idaho: White Wolf Pack in Lewiston, The Circle in Clarkston, Shoshone Circle in Twin Falls, and Cercle d’Arbres in Boise (which services the Ada, Canyon, and Elmore Counties).

WHY? HOW?

The Les Bois Circle’s curriculum is typically centered around the exploration of religious source texts (biblical texts, doctrine, scrollwork—even classical fiction in some cases). We perform rituals and rites from myriad sources. Neophytes are encouraged to seek out scholarly works, ask questions, and learn how to conduct civil discourse and scholastic debate about religion and spirituality (Socratic Seminary) before engaging in rituals of any sacrament. In fact, many of our current neophytes don’t participate in rituals, prayer, or hymnals out of personal choice. Acolytes guide neophytes, may participate in rituals, and are encouraged to seek out new sources of information to bring back to the circle. Our priesthood guides and educates visiting laypersons and fledgling neophytes. They also mentor peers through their own spiritual journeys.

As with most circles in the USA, Cercle d’Arbres is led by one high priestess and one high priest—however, due to Idaho’s State Circle guidelines, these two individuals were specifically chosen from two different generations in order to foster mentorship and prevent stagnation within the circle. Our circle is considered “young” by other Idahoan circles, as it is currently led by the Millennial and Gen-Z generations.

WHERE?

If you are interested in learning more about The Umbran Order, understand that by design, this earth-based religion is esoteric in nature and has been for the better part of three decades. We pride ourselves on our Law of Attraction rather than any Byline of Advertisement. There is no Home Office or Holy Land dedicated to our namesake. We are everywhere and nowhere. We attend religious conventions, festivals, and rituals, but outside of these things, we do not actively recruit for new membership or “higher attendance”.

We invite participation.

So, if you would like to participate in person, please reach out to us via email or direct messages over social media. If you’d rather take a wall-flower approach, we have a YouTube Channel, and this website of course.
